  1. Yes Piyumi, employee wellbeing may raise workplace performance and result in economic growth. There is also evidence to suggest that higher Employee wellbeing can raise an individual’s levels of creativity and problem-solving, and that it may also encourage pro-social behavior and greater levels of engagement at work. However sometimes wellbeing processes would be financial burden to the organizations and will be effect to the long time financial sustainability.

    1. Sayuri, I don’t agree on the saying that sometimes wellbeing processes would be financial burden to the organizations and will be effect to the long-time financial sustainability. The thing is that wellbeing processes have to be managed properly with a clear and sensible measures and steps.
When it comes to wellbeing the actions to develop it don’t have to be costly. Even a small no cost action can make a big change to employee wellbeing, especially by introducing company policies. By using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to demonstrate the holistic nature of well-being offers some simple and easy ways to get started the process. If employees gain just a few seconds of productivity a day, or one person gets an increase in productivity from greater engagement, then the companies will cover the cost and even have an investment.
For example the Tobacco Free Policy of the Johnson & Johnson employees have resulted a huge change in the wellbeing. There are some companies where managers are asked to adopt a personal health goal as one of their unit’s business goals and some companies who makes time for exercise or a fitness break.

    1. I slightly disagree with you Akila, as there are actions an employer can practice with no or low cost. According to Archer (2001) the goal of a wellness program is to assist people in adopting positive behaviors to lead healthier lifestyles and integrate social, mental, financial, emotional, spiritual and physical wellness. At the start up level there are little supportive things to do which can be done at very lower costs. For example, introducing company policies like stress management policy, HIV/AIDS policy, alcohol and substance abuse policy. There are many companies and even government organizations to provide awareness on several topics free of charge which benefits the wellbeing increase of employees. As an example, in Sri Lanka The Central Bank of Sri Lanka is providing awareness programmes on Financial Literacy and Directorate of Mental Health provide awareness programmes on Mental Wellbeing.

Nowadays, employers are aware of many elements that comprise employee wellbeing and are considering to make their employees happier and healthier. With covid 19 outbreak many employers used to prepare their plans to work after covid 19 very carefully since quarantine causes increase of some mental diseases. So, I think employee wellbeing is now more important than ever before.
